FROM THE RACETRACK TO THE ROAD

ABT is the only tuning company that has been using its decades of very successful motorsport experiences to optimise its engines. Its products are extensively tested on both the Kempten development centres’ dynamometer and on public roads.

05. SOPHISTICATED ABT TECHNOLOGY

Be it a petrol or a diesel engine:  the ABT Power-Software upgrade is what makes the difference. Electronic control units are modern cars’ nerve centres. For the ABT Power “New Generation“ upgrade, for example, an ABT engine control unit is used that was intricately developed on the basis of car manufacturers’ standards.

The ABT control unit is tuned with the engine by means of four analogue channels or two digital (SENT) and two analogue channels to correct sensor values such aspressure and temperature and the positions of actuators such as actuating motors as well as the active control of the same.

The further development and application of the ABT engine control is constantly pushed on manufacturer level in order to integrate the latest technology trends of the automotive industry such as digital sensors, for example. So raising the maximum speed is an integral part of the ABT engine control.

Contrary to most competitors, the application of the ABT engine control not only takes place in a two-dimensional way via a characteristic curve, but in a three-dimensional way via a so-called characteristic diagram which is spanned via engine load and rotational speed.Two-dimensional characteristic curves, however, are either spanned via engine load or rotational speed.

The ABT performance increase is therefore active only under full load or in ranges that are close to full load, depending on load and rotational speed. The loads of the engine and its components are thus lower than with many competing solutions where the turbocharger in the lower partial-load range permanently works at its surge limit thus wears out quicker.

Through the individual, three-dimensional application of the parameters ABT is able to offer a constant maximum power under full throttle. This is different to a lot of solutions from market competitors where the power falls back to standard after driving full-speed for a lenghty period of time.

06. INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT AND ADJUSTMENT
THE ABT-POWER SOFTWARE IS DEVELOPED FOR EVERY ENGINE VARIANT INDIVIDUALLY

This does not only make for a harmonious handling but also prevents engine trouble as it usually occurs with low-cost suppliers’ “one fits all” boxes, which often mean engine overload.

Not only the Software, but also the Hardware is developed specifically for each car. The ABT Engine Control is an integrated part of the car. The installation position of the ABT Engine Control using special support brackets made out of Stainless steel (V2A) is individually developed for each car.

The individual and splash-proof cable harnesses enable problem-free integration of the ABT system in the vehicle infrastructure, including the vehicle-internal communication networks. Thanks to the series central plug, installation can be realized quite simply. Here the competing solutions still often require disconnecting and soldering of the cables which is fraught with errors.

By means of a GoreTex® pill for aeration and ventilation of the device, the splash-water repellent housing is additionally protected against formation of condensed water in the interior.

The whole system is extensively tested. This includes environmental testing like electromagnetic compatability, a salt spray test, thermo-shock etc.

ABT offers their own technical component reports from TÜV Rheinland to provide a problem-free registration of the power upgrade. With this ABT customers can be sure to have a car that is comfortable to law.

07. ENGINE PROTECTION
ABT PROVIDES TOP ENGINE PROTECTION

For ABT Power upgrades, a huge number of measuring data is analysed and used to achieve a perfect performance while protecting the engine from being overloaded. ABT has specially adapted versions for every car, engine and transmission variant.

Contrary to most competitor’s offers, the developments by ABT prevent damages to the engine and its components by adjusting component protective measures in a vehicle-specific way in the add-on controller:

Performance increase is released only in a vehicle-specifically applied range. 
The add-on controller does not disturb any protective measures or the series control unit.

ENGINE TEMPERATURE

When the engine is cold, it has only the performance which is released by the series control unit. When the engine is hot, the performance increase is also run back to the series performance..

CHARGE AIR TEMPERATUrE

When the charge air temperature is too high, the performance is taken back to the series level.

HEIGHT ABOVE SEA LEVEl

For the protection of the turbocharger, the performance increase is taken back from a vehicle-individual height above sea level because of changed air conditions.

LIMITATION OF THE FUEL RAIL PREsSURE

The maximum fuel rail pressure is limited regarding its absolute height for the protection of injection components.

08. A better performance with no extra fuel consumption
ABT upgrades do not lead to any extra fuel consumption

More torque, a faster acceleration – but: A higher power figure mustn’t necessarily mean more carbon dioxide emissions – at least with ABT.  The fuel consumption is – with or without a power upgrade – primarily hinged to the driving behavior.

When using ABT Power the desired driving performance can be reached with the use of less gas pedal effort and so effectively less fuel consumption. Like this the CO2 output can be lowered up to 20 per cent.
