Daniel Abt also competes on the spectacular street circuit in the small principality for the first time.
Anticipation for the third and fourth races of the season is thus accordingly big. Abt: “In my opinion the track is certainly one of the absolute highlights on the racing calendar. It will be a fantastic experience to drive here and to soak up the atmosphere at one of the world’s most important motorsport events.” Abt takes a break on the way to the Côte d'Azur to visit Team Lotus GP in Villeuneve la Guyard near Paris in order to prepare in the best possible way for the Monaco premiere. “I’ll use the simulator here to familiarise myself as well as possible for the track,” reveals the 19-year old racer from Kempten.
From earlier Formula 3 races around street circuits in Macau (CN) and Pau (F) he knows exactly which peculiarities await him in the tight and twisty concrete jungle – especially the severe lack of overtaking possibilities. “Everybody in Formula 1 knows that it’s all about a good grid position in Monaco. It’s no different for us which is why the proviso in qualifying is maximum attack.” Daniel Abt also has great expectations in the two near 30 minute races on Friday and Saturday with his 280 hp Dallara race car: “I want to go down in the GP3 Series history books as the first Monaco winner. We demonstrated that we have the speed for this at Barcelona. Unfortunately my jump start put paid to our good work, which is why I’m even more fired up to score points in Monaco to make good those I lost at Barcelona.”
