ABT Sportsline has managed to secure the support of a high-calibre partner for its commitment in Formula E: Schaeffler will become the German team’s exclusive technology partner and be featured with its logo on the electric racing cars of Daniel Abt and Lucas di Grassi.
The partnership with the company that nationally and internationally numbers among the innovation leaders with its developments was announced today during the final Formula E track tests at Donington. Managing Director Hans-Jürgen Abt, Head of Marketing Harry Unflath and Schaeffler’s Management Board Member for Technology Prof. Dr. Peter Gutzmer sealed the long-term collaboration and, in addition, presented the new graphics of the racing cars to fans and media.
“Helping to shape the electrification of the automobile is one of our key strategic topics of the future. Formula E is bold and visionary, which makes it a perfect fit for us and an ideal complement to our commitments in the DTM, the WEC and Formula Student,” said Prof. Dr. Peter Gutzmer. “Motorsport is not only ideally suited to accelerating the further development of new technologies but energises the topic of electric mobility with emotions in a fascinating way.”
Schaeffler with its product brands INA, LuK and FAG is a leading provider and renowned supplier to the automotive industry of high-precision components and systems for engines, transmissions and chassis applications. With over 79,000 employees at approximately 170 locations in 49 countries, Schaeffler has a worldwide network of manufacturing locations, research and development facilities, sales companies, engineering offices and training centres. The collaboration with ABT Sportsline has a long-range focus and far exceeds a pure sponsoring arrangement. “We’re going to support the further development of the race car and its components with the know-how and experience of our engineers in the future,” said Gutzmer.
“We’re delighted that in Schaeffler we’ve got a perfect partner for the challenges in Formula E on board, as from the company’s presence in the DTM we’ve come to know the passion with which all the employees support motorsport,” says Managing Director Hans-Jürgen Abt. “The collaboration in the field of technology is a very important aspect. Starting in the second season, the teams will be allowed to subject some of the vehicle’s components to further development – so a partner with such a wealth of engineering expertise and experience in electric mobility is obviously worth a mint.”
Today’s track tests at Donington conclude the preparations of the ten teams. Coming up: the first race of the season in Beijing that starts on 13 September.
