SPORT AUTO-AWARD

The readers of the German sport auto magazine are real experts. They simply know what a dynamic, sporty car is. “And that’s why we are so very pleased about this vote”, says Hans-Jürgen Abt. The readers of the German sport auto magazine are real experts. They simply know what a dynamic, sporty car is. “And that’s why we are so very pleased about this vote”, says Hans-Jürgen Abt. And this year, the CEO of the globally largest tuner of cars produced by the Volkswagen Group can even take pride in a double victory at the end of the annual sport auto readers’ vote.

In the “S Tuning Diesel“ category, the ABT AS6 Avant received an outstanding 40.8 per cent of the total vote, beating renowned peers by a large margin: The second only received 24.3 per cent. Hans-Jürgen Abt is particularly impressed with the Golf GTI's triumph. After all, this special ABT was able to defend its title. As 2011 it had won in the “R Tuning compact car“ category. This year, a third of all voters chose the fast car from Bavaria. Its combination of innovative technology and history paid off. The ABT people, we shouldn’t forget this, have left their mark on every of the, as yet, six GTI generations.

Aside the two winners, ABT Golf GTI and ABT AS6 Avant, the ABT TT RS also went down very well with the sport auto readers. In the “X Tuning Coupés of up to € 80,000“ category, the 470 hp (346 kW) athlete ranked fifth. A very respectable result, since a mere 0.9 points more would have made it rank second. For Hans-Jürgen Abt, the sport auto readers’ vote is a real mark of confidence that makes him look forward to seeing ABT rise to new challenges: “We not only want to maintain our standard, we want to raise it, actually. Only if we set trends today, we will be able to win tomorrow.”
