The racing cars of the series achieve 350 HP (257 kW), which is 17 percent more than the very well motorized Leon CUPRA R ST station wagon does. With 4Drive and DSG transmission, it manages an even 300 HP (221 KW) in the production model. In the end, the difference in performance is no big deal, especially since the ABT Power boost brings both vehicles to the same level in this regard. After the upgrade, the Leon CUPRA R ST brings a torque of 440 Nm instead of 400 Nm and 350 HP (257 kW) onto the road, which are realized with the auxiliary ABT Engine Control unit. The acceleration and top-speed values after the upgrade are impressive. It masters the standard sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4,7 seconds and only at 260 km/h do the tractive resistance and the thrust cancel each other out.
The compact station wagon shares the engine specifications with the CUPRA Ateca ABT presented at the end of 2018. The project was the start of a close cooperation with the new sporty car brand from the SEAT environment. Now the Leon CUPRA R ST follows as the second coup; and there is also more than a power boost. ABT Sportsline also makes improvements when it comes to suspension and rims.
ABT suspensions springs bring the “station racer” closer to the road, 20 millimeters in the front and 15 in the rear. This makes corners even more fun and the look also profits from this. ABT replaces the original 19-inch wheels with the elegant 20-inch GR from their catalog. The rim design features ten spokes which bisect towards the rim flange, the recessed hub area and the strongly concave rim base. While the fully diamond-machined surface of the ABT SPORT GR matt black creates a high level of plasticity and delicate elegance, the ABT SPORT GR glossy black version appears more aggressive with the striking diamond-machined flange. And such a level of self-confidence is definitely appropriate with 350 HP (257 kW).
