An award for Daniel Abt: His hometown has chosen the 24-year-old racing driver as their ‘Sportsman of the Year’. The judges not only acknowledged his sporting achievements in Formula E, but also his role as an ambassador for the German region around the world.
Formula E enthuses Kempten: On the weekend, the city prepared around 600 Gala guests for Daniel Abt’s honour with some impressive pictures from the racing series. The 24-year-old racer has been chosen for the ‘Sportsman of the Year’ for the first time in his young career, and he was awarded the title by Mayor Thomas Kiechle.
“I’m tremendously happy with this award and I’m so proud to have won it. Thank you to everyone who has supported me for it,” said Daniel Abt, who swapped his racing suit with black tie for the evening. “It’s really nice that this honour is connected to Formula E. I’m sure that this is the series of the future.”
Previously Harry Unflath, Head of Marketing at ABT Sportsline and Daniel Abt’s manager, had traced the career of his protégé and recalled his greatest successes. These include titles in Formula Masters, and runner-up titles in Formula 3 and the international GP3 Series. “However, Daniel took the biggest step of his career in Formula E,” said Unflath. Daniel Abt has so far taken four podiums, including a second place at his home race in Berlin.
The next opportunity to add to his track record is in just under four weeks’ time: On February 18, Formula E will hold its third round of the season in Buenos Aires (Argentina).
