STREET vs. RACE – the new body kits for Audi R8

Is it still a sports car or already a race car? Not only does the Audi R8 feature unrivaled driving dynamics, it also bears a visual resemblance to motorsports, where the special LMS variant is used.

Is it still a sports car or already a race car? Not only does the Audi R8 feature unrivaled driving dynamics, it also bears a visual resemblance to motorsports, where the special LMS variant is used. Owners of the “civilian” version can use the two unique body kits from ABT Sportsline to document to which side they lean. So it is STREET vs. RACE now. The new rear muffler system and the optimized air flow provide an additional 20 HP (15 kW).

The STREET body kit gives the Audi R8 a clearly more distinctive appearance with a new front skirt with visible carbon fiber panels. The large air intakes with wire mesh on the sides and significantly more openings, beads and edges produce a more aggressive, but always stylish look. The rear also receives a new skirt, which is much more distinctive than the production version. The visible carbon fiber double tailpipe trims and the frames around the air intakes stand out in particular.

Still not powerful enough? The RACE body kit, which is based on the STREET version, has a little more fireworks to offer. The front is adorned with a front lip with side blades in visible carbon fiber. The high tech material from racing is also used on the sides – for the new ABT side blades and parts of the additional wheelhouse ventilations. The rear blades are perfect match for the existing diffuser on the rear, completing the race car look. Optionally, the visible carbon fiber parts on the STREET and RACE body kits can also be purchased in matte or with a color glaze for a surcharge. Glossy black ABT mirror covers are also available as an add-on. The look is completed with the forged 19 inch ABT HIGH PERFORMANCE ER-F rims in “black magic”. The ABT HIGH PERFORMANCE GR rims in 20 inch and also in “black magic” and in a forged version are another alternative.

Anyone who currently “only” has an R8 with the 540 HP (397 kW) “basic engine” in their garage and wants to show off in the performance department can additionally take advantage of the ABT Power power boost. ABT Sportsline manages to get an additional 70 HP out of the 5.2 liter V10 engine. This brings it on a level with the R8 V10 plus which has the same engine layout. With optimized engine management, the 610 HP (449 kW) and 560 Nm are waiting to be unleashed on the road. And this does not yet include the impact of the improved exhaust system from the body kits: this brings the maximum yield up to 630 HP (464 kW). The optional ABT coilover suspension springs and ABT sports stabilizer bars provide perfect control, bringing the R8 onto the ideal line not only visually, but also on the road.
